During an earthquake it is anticipated that the liquefaction and lateral spreading will occur in unimproved alluvium. This condition will temporarily reduce the confining pressure of the adjacent soil. After the seismic event the liquefiable soil will have settled and displaced laterally but will regain strength and return to confining the adjacent soil. Soil that relies on liquefiable soils confining pressure for shear strength may fail during an earthquake.
To address these issues, Raito implemented an innovative approach known as the Shallow Soil Mixing method. This technique involves blending the existing soil with a binding agent to enhance its structural properties, thereby improving its load-bearing capacity and overall performance.
